The giants in front of me were the lack of know-how, the hatred of failure, and lastly, did I have what it would take mentally?!?!

Q: What was your “impossible” – the thing you thought you would never be able to do?

A: My impossibles were getting through the 100 mile marathon and the 24 hour event.

Q: Why did you think you’d never be able to do it? What was standing in your way?

A: For me, running was something I turned to for health. I used to think marathons were crazy and then I saw the Ultra events. To get through an Ultra was even crazier, a little stupid and nearly impossible! The same went for the 24 hour events.

Q: When and how did you end up achieving it?

A: The giants in front of me were the lack of know-how, the hatred of failure, and lastly, did I have what it would take mentally?!?! Well I found out that we can gain knowledge of the know-how, we all have a different definition of failure, and 3 the mind is a powerful thing.

I finished my first 100 miler in 2017. I finished my first 24 hour event in 2019. (I use the term finished loosely.) I ended up reaching out to some resources on the physical training and as far the mental side and failure part, I’m still working on but have had some small victories along the way.

My ultimate goal would be to hit the US qualifying number in miles for the 24 hour event and hopefully, and I mean hopefully, get on the team. That’s a big hope!!!

Q: What piece of advice would you give to those who may be feeling like they have an “impossible” they want to conquer?

A: All of us should have an impossible that we’re trying to overcome or conquer. I would advise any and everyone with their impossible to give everything you have (mentally, physically, emotionally, etc.). Use the resources around you and don’t be afraid to fail. Failure is never fun but man it builds character and makes each of us who we are as individuals. And finally when tackling your impossible, don’t compare yours to anyone else’s. Your impossible is yours and it’s there for you to conquer.
