The My 3:59 Inspiration

On a windy Friday on a track in Oxford, England Roger Bannister became the first person to run a mile in less than 4 minutes. The year was 1954. Prior to that it was just understood that the human body was not physically capable of doing it. But once Bannister broke the barrier, it took just 46 days for another runner to achieve the impossible. Within a decade a high schooler from Kansas did it.

Roger Bannister the runner would go on to become Dr. Roger Bannister the neurologist. A neurologist specializes in the nervous system which includes the brain and the spinal cord. What the brain tells the body matters. What we believe to be possible – or impossible – is incredibly significant.
